Bills vs. Chiefs NFL Divisional Round Picks: Arguments for Both Sides of the Spread (Archive)

Originally published on January 17, 2022

Last week we got it right, this week we look to do it again… but this time it is 2000x harder as the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills face off in Kansas City. Which way to lean at the top-rated sportsbooks?

Both teams laid a whupping on two of the NFL’s biggest institutions in the Pittsburgh Steelers and Bill Belichick… I mean the New England Patriots, but now the road to the AFC Championship leads us back to the two teams that faced off for the Lamar Hunt Trophy just one year ago. Here is all you need to know for your NFL picks.

Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Sunday, January 23, 2022 – 06:30 PM EST at Arrowhead Stadium

Walking into the stadium on Sunday night, the Chiefs are a -2 favorite according to the NFL odds at BetOnline, the closest spread of any game scheduled (as of January 17th) for the divisional round of the playoffs, which makes a ton of sense.

If this game were in Buffalo, the roles would be reversed, the Bills at home in weather that can only be described as “Day After Tomorrow with flaming tables” would be the 12th man for the Bills, despite the Chiefs playing in the midwest which for seven months out of the year is cold, drab and depressing like all of those poems you’re buddy Tim wrote.

This is a stronger Chiefs team than the Bills faced a year ago, mainly on the offensive line, along with bouncing back from a rough first half of the season to win nine of their last ten games with the only loss by three points… to potential AFC Championship opponents the Cincinnati Bengals.

The focus for Buffalo is looking for any weakness on either side of the ball, as injuries to key offensive players like Josh Gordon have forced the Chiefs to call on practice squad players such as Daurice Fountain to step in for big games like last night. And while Mike Tomlin is a great coach, this Steelers team was by far the worst team in this year’s playoffs.

I wasn’t able to watch the Bills-Patriots game on Saturday night (because of my work with Catalyst Wrestling available for free on YouTube and Tubi), but I watched the Chiefs-Steelers game and my stomach was VERY nervous in the first quarter as the game started, in the same way, two brothers playing Madden for the first time would be, sloppy, disorganized and mostly scoreless with wild insanity happening within it.

The Chiefs soon found their rhythm and knocked out the Steelers in the football equivalent of 4/4 time, but Josh Allen and company are not the fumes of Ben Roethlisberger.

Allen and the Bills are gonna keep this game close, are they gonna finally get over the hump and face either the Titans or the Bengals next week? I really don’t know.

I do know that taking the Chiefs at -2 is insanity, taking the Bills +2 is not as insane of a pick, but the safest bet here is the Over 55 which is set by BetOnline at -110, which is even money with the Under 55 as both teams will look to keep the opposing defense on their toes on Sunday night.
