Cincinnati Bengals vs. Detroit Lions
Sunday, October 17, 2021 – 01:00 PM EDT at Ford Field
The Bengals entered last week as a 2.5-point underdog and are now a slight favorite for this matchup. As for Detroit, they were 10-point underdogs in Week 5 and covered the spread. According to BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), Cincy is a 3-point favorite over Detroit with the over/under at 47.5
The Bengals managed to lose 25-22 in overtime to the visiting Packers. Cincy rallied late in the fourth quarter with a touchdown and game-tying, 2-point conversion. They had a chance to win the game but PK Evan McPherson missed a 57-yard field goal with 26 seconds remaining before overtime and then he missed a game-winning 49-yard attempt in OT. The Packers’ kicking game wasn’t any better as they missed three field-goal attempts.
Cincy’s QB Joe Burrow, who finished with 281 passing yards and 2 TDs, had a scare and was taken to a hospital following the game for a possible throat contusion. However, he was released in “good shape.” Detroit’s fifth-straight loss was absolutely heartbreaking. They were so close to their first victory of the season but couldn’t finish the game which left Dan Campbell literally in tears at the post-game presser.
So far this season Burrow has thrown for 1,269 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 6 picks on 71.7% On the defensive side, Logan Wilson leads Cincy with 47 total tackles, Trey Hendrickson has 4.5 sacks and B.J. Hill has added 3 more sacks. Detroits’ QB Jared Goff has thrown for 1,303 yards, 7 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on 66.8% and the defense has not matched up to Cincy’s with Alex Anzalone leading with 26 total tackles and Charles Harris with 3 sacks.
Both teams are fresh off of devastating losses that should have been victories but will have an equal shot at a bounce-back this week. Detroit isn’t bad as the Jets or the Jaguars. They have been able to make good teams work for it. This seems like a trap game and everyone is going to be on Cincy with a small spread. I hope the Lions win but if anything, they’ll put up a good fight and cover again.
