Whereas most poker industry observers believe the passage of the UIGE Act could reduce the number of entrants to the World Series of Poker, and some go as far as to say that online qualifiers will not be accepted to the 2007 WSOP, Progressive Gaming and Harrah’s Entertainment have announced a new form of internet or server-based poker.
The new game called World Series of Poker Peer to Peer Texas Hold’em has been designed to be played by casino customers on mobile handheld devices or fixed terminals from a hotel bar, restaurant or pool.
Ken Weil, senior vice president of gaming at Harrah’s, commented: “The World Series of Poker Peer to Peer Texas Hold’em gaming system provides operators with the ability to offer their patrons the opportunity to participate in exciting Texas Hold’em poker game competitions that capture the excitement of an authentic WSOP experience. As a casino operator and brand licensor, we are very excited by the strategic and economic opportunity that the gaming system can provide Harrah’s.”
