The bill, sponsored by Representatives Bob Goodlatte and Jim Leach, survived various amendments to include exemptions for state lotterties, horse racing and fantasy sports, and was passed 317 to 93. The legislation aims at updating the 1961 Wire Act and at prohibiting credit cards and other payment forms from being used to settle internet bets.

The bill now moves to the Senate, where observers question whether it will make it through before the legislative period ends this year due to November\’s Senate elections.
