US Attorney Catherine Hanaway said her office will continue to prosecute BetonSports even though the UK-based internet betting company was closing its offices in Costa Rica and Antigua, and will no longer take bets from American customers.
“It’s always good when people quit committing crime, but that doesn’t release them from the criminal or civil liability from the crimes they’ve already done,” Ms Hanaway told the Associated Press.
Separately, Scott Rosenblum, the new lawyer for the fired Chief Executive of BetonSports, said he agreed with prosecutors on the terms of Carruthers’ release and that they were just waiting on bail money, which should arrive no later than Monday.
