The Malta-based online sportsbook, which recently received the prestigious “European Sportsbook of the Year 2006” award by eGaming Review, announced that for the third quarter of 2006 gross winnings revenue amounted to £19.3m, up from £ 11.1m in the same period in 2005, and profit after tax increased to £5.3m from £3.4m the previous year. For the period January to September 2006, gross winnings revenue and profit after tax amounted to £55.1m and £14.8m respectively.
Gross winnings revenue for sports betting amounted to £7.0m for the third quarter of 2006 (Q3 2005: £4.4m) and to £18.9m for the nine months to September 2006 (2005: £11.4m). The gross winnings margin for sports betting for the third quarter 2006 was 8.2% in line with the same period in 2005. Sweden made up 32% of sports betting revenues, rest of the Nordic countries 13%, Southern Europe 30% and rest of the world 24%.
Non-sports betting saw gross winnings revenue increase by almost 85% to £12.3m for the third quarter of 2006. While for the first nine months of the year, gross winnings revenue for non sports betting amounted to £36.2m (2005: £15.8m). Of the non-sports betting gross winnings in the third quarter, poker represented 41 per cent and casino 50 per cent.
At 30 September 2006 the number of active customers, who placed at least a bet in the last three months, amounted to 214,042 compared to 223,104 at 30 June 2006, reflecting increased activity levels during the World Cup. The total number of registered customers exceeded 1,447,000 at September 30, up from 1,340,000 at June 30.
“We are proud that we could capitalise on a strong customer intake during the 2006 World Cup showing a new all time high in gross winnings for sports betting as well as non sports products during the third quarter,” commented Petter Nylander, CEO of Unibet.
During the period, Unibet also launched multiplayer Bingo for the Swedish market and completed a scheme of arrangement to establish a new holding company in Malta.
