England’s victory over Ecuador provided the biggest UK audience to sports and gambling sites of all England’s four matches so far and pushed the weekly audience to over 3 million UK sports fans for the first time in the tournament. This figure represents a 51% growth in audience to sports and gambling websites over the last four weeks.
“The 50% increase in visitors to sports and gambling websites over the last month shows what a massive boost the World Cup gives to the online space. It provides a wonderful, but brief, opportunity for websites to attract and engage new audiences and hopefully keep them beyond the end of the tournament,” commented Alex Burmaster, Nielsen//NetRatings European Internet Analyst.
