The betting industry’s new supervisory body will be launched later this year, as pointed out on a document published this week by the Gaming Board, titled \’An introductory guide to the Gambling Commission\’.
The document sketches out the initial details of the new regulatory approach and provides an approximate timetable for its highly anticipated introduction.
The new regulator will start functioning in October 2005, but only in late 2006 when the relocation from London to Birmingham will be completed, it plans to invite applications for new licenses.
The Statement of Policy on Licensing and Regulation says it will be guided by the following principles: vigorously regulate gambling in the public interest; be transparent, accountable and consistent; take a risk-based approach to regulation, assessed using evidence and best regulatory practice; consult widely and use its resources effectively.
