Under changes to the Broadcasting Code, bookmakers are now allowed to sponsor TV programmes in Britain and the Tote\’s CEO Trevor Beaumont said to be ready to negotiate a financial contribution with Channel 4.
“We would be prepared to put money into a deal, but we could not meet the quantum on our own and it would require a number of others to make it workable,” Beaumont said.
“My primary concern is the impact the loss of Channel 4 Racing would have on the Scoop6,” he added.
William Hill, Ladbrokes and Coral showed little interest in contributing to any fund that might keep Channel 4 Racing on the air.
