The 3rd round takes place this Sunday with the players from the bottom half of the draw in action on the men’s competition. Bookmakers Review breaks down the fixtures below and lists the best available odds from green listed bookmakers.
WTA Miami – Taylor Townsend (q) vs. Svetlana Kuznetsova (7)
Playing in Miami brings great memories to Svetlana Kuznetsova with the 2006 champion holding a phenomenal 31 – 11 career record on this event. Besides her victory in the 2006 edition, Svetlana also featured a remarkable run last season, losing only in the final against Victoria Azarenka. Taking a look now at Kuznetsova’s campaign in Miami, the world no.7 didn’t experience any problems on her debut with an easy 6 – 2 6 – 2 win against Mandy Minella.
Taylor Townsend couldn’t ask for a better debut in Miami with the former junior world no.1 securing a place in the 3rd round after a straight sets victory over the 25th seed – Roberta Vinci. Known for her powerful groundstrokes and aggressive return to serve, Townsend won 53.50% of her opponents’ service games throughout this event.
Due to Svetlana’s prior success on this tournament and outstanding results in recent months, the Russian is the undeniable favourite to win this match at 1/5 at Coral. On the other hand, Pinnacle offers the best price in the market for Townsend’s victory at 24/5. Even though we agree with Kuznetsova’s favouritism, this should be a closer match than the odds suggest. Having said that, Taylor’s +6.0 game handicap at 67/100 at Pinnacle is definitely the best betting approach for this contest.
ATP Miami – Jeremy Chardy vs. Fabio Fognini
Whenever Fabio Fognini steps on court everything can happen. Despite his tremendous talent, Fabio is also famous for his fiery temper. Fognini’s last match in Miami against João Sousa is a great example of that with the two players involved in a heated discussion after the end of the match. After reaching the 4th round in 2014, Fabio is looking for his second career appearance at that stage in the Miami Open.
Known for his big serve and powerful forehand, Jeremy Chardy is always a dangerous opponent. After 8 consecutive defeats against top 10 players, Chardy ended the losing streak with a victory over the world no.9 – Marin Cilic. Looking now at Jeremy’s numbers on the previous round against Cilic, the highlight clearly goes to his numbers at the net with Chardy winning 78.95% of the points played at the net.
These two players know each other very well with Fabio winning all their previous five encounters.
Despite Fognini’s lead on the h2h, a third set was required in all their last three meetings. The bookmakers are well aware of that with Fognini available at 43/50 at Pinnacle while BetVictor offers 21/20 for Chardy’s win. With this in mind, our suggestion is for you to go with the trend and take the Over 22.5 at 19/20 at Pinnacle.
