The 2nd round gets underway this Friday on the men’s competition with the top seeded players from the bottom half of the draw making their debut. Bookmakers Review breaks down the fixtures below and lists the best available odds from green listed bookmakers.
ATP Miami – Young vs. Pouille
Considered by many as one of the most promising young players of his generation, the former junior world no.1 – Donald Young – always failed to live up to expectations. Despite his undeniable talent, Young is also famous for his inconsistency with the 27 years old American losing all his previous two finals on the ATP World Tour. Donald’s record in Miami is also far from brilliant with the American winning only 27.27% of the matches played throughout his career on this event’s main draw.
Playing in Miami brings great memories to Lucas Pouille with the French reaching the 4th round on his debut last season. Adding to this, Lucas also recorded his first career victory over a top 10 opponent on this event against the world no.8 – David Ferrer. After struggling with some physical problems in the first weeks of 2017, Pouille is finally back to his best level with the world no.15 winning 70.00% of his last 10 matches.
This will be the 4th career meeting between these two players with Pouille leading by 2 – 1 on the h2h. However, Young won their last encounter at the BNP Paribas Open last week.
Despite Donald’s recent victory, the conditions in Miami are completely different from the ones in Indian Wells. In contrast with the courts in the Californian desert, the ball bounces much lower in Miami, which clearly benefits Pouille on this match-up. With this in mind, Lucas should emerge victorious this time with Ladbrokes offering 1/2 for his triumph while Young is available at 9/5 at Pinnacle.
WTA Miami – Barty vs. Stosur
Regardless of the outcome one thing is certain, Ashleigh Barty already secured her career high ranking next week after defeating Eugenie Bouchard in the opening round. Despite her victory, Barty was far from impressive with 21 winners and 40 unforced errors. However, Bouchard was even worse, ending the match with a terrible 0.47 winners / unforced errors ratio.
Playing in the US is always special for the 2011 US Open champion – Samantha Stosur. However, Stosur’s golden days are long gone with the Australian winning only 41.67% of the matches played this season. Besides, Samantha hasn’t won a single title on the WTA Tour since July 2015 in Bad Gastein.
Even though this is the first official meeting between them, these two players know each other very well since they are Fed Cup teammates.
Taking a look now at the odds available for this game, Barty is the main favourite with Pinnacle offering 57/100 for Ash to reach the 3rd round. On the other hand, Stosur is available 81/50 at Bet365 to win this match. Even though we agree with Barty’s favouritism, it’s hard to find any value on these short odds. Therefore, our suggestion is to wait for an in-play opportunity to grab a better price on Barty. Adding to this, the Over 21.5 at 19/20 at Pinnacle is also a good approach for this contest.
