ATP Miami – Isner vs. Zverev
After several knee injuries throughout his career, John Isner is no longer the same player at the age of 31. Known for his brilliant 61.54% career record on tie breaks, John only won 53.45% of the 58 tie breaks played over the last 12 months. Adding to this, Isner was far from impressive on serve in the previous round against Thomaz Bellucci, allowing one break of serve and ending the match with only 55.07% first serves in.
On the other hand, the 19 years old – Alexander Zverev – continues his meteoric rise. Zverev couldn’t ask for a better debut in Miami, losing only three games in the previous round against Yen-Hsun Lu. Looking now at Alexander’s numbers in that contest, the German ended the match with 21 winners / 12 unforced errors, winning only 70.00% of the points with more than 9 shots.
This will be the 2nd career meeting between these two players with Zverev winning their previous encounter a few months ago in Shanghai by 6 – 4 6 – 2.
Even though Isner is always a dangerous opponent due to his outstanding serve, it’s unlikely to see him emerging victorious from this contest. Zverev is currently at a much higher level and as it happened in Shanghai, we expect another victory from the German. With this in mind, Alexander is the main favourite to win this contest at 63/100 at Pinnacle while Isner is available at 137/100 at Bet365.
WTA Miami – Muguruza vs. Wozniacki
Playing in Miami is always special for Garbine Muguruza since this is one of her favourite tournaments on the WTA Tour. Taking a look now at Garbine’s campaign on this year’s edition, the 2016 French Open champion reaches this stage of the competition after two comebacks from set down against Christina McHale and Shuai Zhang.
Caroline Wozniacki continues her impressive run in 2017 and it shouldn’t take long before the former world no.1 returns to the top 10. Famous for her remarkable defence, Wozniacki is always a tough player to beat. In contrast with Garbine’s path in Miami, the Danish didn’t experience any problems so far on this event, defeating Varvara Lepchenko and Sorana Cirstea in straight sets.
These two players know each other very well with Muguruza winning three of their previous four encounters.
As it happens with Stan Wawrinka on the ATP World Tour, Garbine is also a “Big Match Player”. Muguruza’s numbers throughout her career against top 10 opponents are a great example of that with the Spaniard presenting a phenomenal 62.50% ROI.
