The Miami Open 2nd round comes to an end this Saturday on the men’s side while the women’s 3rd round gets underway. Bookmakers Review breaks down the fixtures below and lists the best available odds from green listed bookmakers.
ATP Miami – Coric vs. Thiem
Two of the most promising young players on the ATP World Tour – Borna Coric and Dominic Thiem – will face each other this Saturday with a place at the Miami Open 3rd round at stake.
After reaching the quarter-finals in Indian Wells, Dominic Thiem is looking for another successful campaign in Miami. Dominic is going through a terrific moment in recent weeks with the Austrian winning 83.33% of the matches since his defeat at the ATP Rotterdam quarter-finals against Pierre-Hugues Herbert.
Despite the high expectations around him, Borna Coric continues to disappoint. With only 5 wins in 13 matches this season, Coric is already ranked outside the top 60. Looking now at Borna’s campaign in Miami, the Croat reaches this stage of the competition after defeating Marcel Granollers in a match where he was a break down in the decisive set.
As expected, Thiem is the undeniable favourite to win this match at 1/4 at William Hill while Bet365 offers 333/100 for Coric’s win. Even though we agree with Dominic’s favouritism and expect a victory from the Austrian, it’s impossible to find value on his current odds. With this in mind, our suggestion is for you to wait for an in-play opportunity to place a bet on Thiem with 2/5 as the bottom line price to get involved on this contest.
WTA Miami – Putintseva vs. Pliskova
Karolina Pliskova couldn’t ask for a better debut in Miami with the world no.3 defeating Madison Brengle by 6 – 1 6 – 3. Despite her straightforward win, Pliskova keeps far from impressive on serve. Known as one of the best servers in tennis history, Karolina only won 68.63% of her service games throughout the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Adding to this, Pliskova ended the match with Brengle with only 45.65% first serves in.
Regardless of this Saturday’s result one thing is certain, Yulia Putintseva already secured her return to the top 30. Famous for her undeniable quality, Putintseva is finally living up to expectations with the 22 years old Kazakh reaching her first WTA title a few weeks ago in St. Petersburg. After two consecutive defeats in the opening round in Dubai and Indian Wells, Yulia booked a place in the Miami Open 3rd round after a straight sets victory over Carina Witthoeft.
This will be the 3rd career meeting between these two players. Putintseva won their first meeting five years ago when they were still outside the top 100 while Pliskova revenged that defeat earlier this season in Brisbane.
Despite Karolina’s 6 – 3 6 – 1 victory two months ago in Australia, this should be a closer affair than the odds suggest. Not only is Pliskova struggling with her serve but the game conditions in Miami are much slower than the ones in Brisbane. On the other hand, Putintseva is a fearful competitor and won’t go down without a fight. Therefore, the value is definitely on Yulia’s price at 519/100 at Pinnacle while Karolina is available at 19/100 at 5Dimes. Due to the value on Putintseva, the best approach is to bet on her +6.0 game handicap at 77/100 at Pinnacle.
