As reported by the Prague Post, betting over the telephone is rapidly gaining in popularity among Czech punters.
“To enter the [phone betting] market, the provider only needs to invest in its IT systems,” said Milan Jelek, Chief Executive of Erika, the first phone gambling provider certified by the Finance Ministry.
“To get a license, a phone gambling provider must guarantee that 22 per cent of the placed bets is paid out in prizes,” said Finance Ministry spokesman Marek Zeman.
Otherwise the Czech Government lacks to regulate internet betting and is trying to force foreing online bookmakers out of the local market.
“The problem is that the internet has no borders, and so it\’s very difficult to get the upper hand in this situation,” said Zeman.
“The government should realize that it is losing increasing amounts of money [with its policy],” commented Martin tefunko, Chairman of Fortuna, a Czech bookmaker.
