Gerard Daffy, manager of Australian bookmaker Centrebet, said betting on the next head of the Catholic church before the Pope died “was morally wrong because it hinged on the death of an important figure.”
Sportingbet Australia opened the option of voting on the successor almost four months ago.
“We really did it in response to a lot of enquiries from our clients,” said Michael Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer of the Darwin-based bookmaker.
“We are talking about the election of a very significant head of state. How you can say it\’s bad taste is beyond me,” he added.
