Sportingbet Chief Executive Nigel Payne explained that the legislation going through parliament at the moment includes a clause that says if a company has a piece of equipment in the UK, it would require a UK license to operate, which in turn means every bet taken around the world has the potential to be taxed by the UK government.
“The Gambling Bill, in its current form, may be open to wide interpretation. Unless properly addressed, this lack of clarity may compromise one of the primary aims of the Gambling Bill, to encourage online gaming operators onshore into a UK regulated environment.”
Payne added: “I\’m very encouraged that the government is looking at the issue, and that it will reveal revised clauses to the bill in the near future.”
