As revealed by Ladbrokes, only £5 have been staked on Chelsea since the firm reopened the book on the Premiership victory, while bets on the Red Devils have reached the five figures.

“As far as we\’re concerned the title race was over a long time ago. But we were inundated with punters over the course of the weekend looking to back Sir Alex\’s boys, so we reopened the book on Sunday,” said a Ladbrokes spokesman.

“It\’ll be a case of double trouble if we have to reach for our wallets again as we paid out Chelsea on Valentine\’s Day. We\’d love the Blues to put the issue to rest sooner rather than later.”

Ladbrokes paid out over £500,000 to Chelsea\’s backers in February.

In separate news, William Hill announced an Aussie from Queensland is set to collect £4200 if Scottish soccer minnows Gretna defeat Hearts in the final of the Scottish Cup next month.

Gretna began the competition as massive 200-1 outsiders but after defeating Dundee 3-0 in the semi-final last weekend, they are now just one step away from completing one of the biggest ever upsets in British soccer.
