Peter Dicks, who appeared at a hearing in a New York City court to face charges of “gambling by computer”, was granted an extension to his bail and allowed to return to Britain. Soon after the hearing, Dicks resigned from Sportingbet as Non-Executive Chairman.
Earlier in the day, New York Governor George Pataki\’s office withdrew the governor\’s warrant necessary to extradite Dicks to Louisiana and postponed the extradition hearing until September 28.
Dicks\’ lawyer Barry Slotnick said he hopes that the Louisiana warrant at that time will be totally withdrawn.
Back in the UK, Sportingbet, whose shares surged over 25 per cent to close the day at 192p, said in a statement to the stock market that it accpeted the resignation of Peter Dicks with “great reluctance.”
