Massive betting coup

A number of European bookmakers were hit by a massive betting coup on UEFA Cup match between Panionios (Greece) and Dinamo Tbilisi (Georgia).

Many new account holders staked the maximum bet on Panionios to be losing at half time, but to be winning at full time, while bookies were also flooded with bets on the unlikely correct score for the Greek side winning 4-2 or 5-2. Bookies across Europe suspended betting on the game approximately 6 hours before kick off.

Panionios, down at half time by 1-0, came back to score five goals in the second half, two of which were scored in injury time, and win 5-2.

At the time of writing, bookies have suspended payments, in the event of a conspiration and waiting for an official enquiry. Suspicious betting patterns were reported to UEFA.
