Italy reopens the investigation into dozens of soccer games suspected to have been fixed

The investigation, which regards games from last season and includes several Serie A matches, first started in the summer when the Italian soccer federation\’s disciplinary commission uncovered a $300,000 payment from Genoa to their opponents Venezia to guarantee Genoa a win in the last day of the season.

Criminal prosecutors have followed on examing intercepted conversations between soccer players and well-known bettors and they are now trying to find out whether the games were fixed to pull off betting scams or were agreed on for “sporting” reasons and the bettors simply got tipped off by insiders.
