As reported by eGaming Review, the slot machine maker is believed to be in detailed discussions to acquire US egaming software firm WagerWorks in a deal worth in excess of $50m.
WagerWorks is the only major egaming software firm to not accept bets from the US, making it a prime acquisition target for US land-based operators.
The company provides casino and poker software for online operators, including Blue Square, GetMinted, Paddy Power, Skybet and Virgin Games.
It also recently launched a real-money poker site in association with the World Poker Tour.
IGT is one of the giants of the US gaming sector, despite a 19 % drop in profits to $114.7m in its fiscal third quarter ended June 30.
