The Interactive Gambling Gaming and Betting Association said it expected 225 companies to relocate from offshore tax havens to the UK if the Gambling Bill became law.

The proposed reform would establish a regulatory framework and tax regime for internet betting, encouraging operators to come to the UK.

“Without a properly regulated interactive industry, UK citizens have to visit offshore sites to gamble and the government has no means of enforcing its licensing objectives. If this bill does not pass during this parliament, we believe it may be many months or even years before we get appropriate legislation,” said Richard Flint, Chairman of the IGGBA.
