While the FBI has put under intense scrutiny over 20 games officiated by Tim Donaghy, in which the opening point spread moved two points or more, the New York Sun says that a soon-to-be-published study by Jonathan Gibbs, a Stanford University economist, reveals that over the past 14 NBA seasons the games with large point spreads offered the best opportunities for unscrupulous people to artificially impact the margins of victory.
