Online gambling has proved to be a valuable source of income for Alderney, which is using the £1.5m it makes every year from license fees, to reduce the financial support it receives from Guernsey.
While Guernsey recognizes the economic potential of establishing e-gaming on the island, there are currently no plans to compete with Alderney.
“Alderney has a strong international personality in this area and is regarded as one of the best regulated e-gaming jurisdictions and Guernsey has always sought to support e-gaming in Alderney,” said a spokesperson for the Home Department.
Speaking at this week’s international summit on remote gambling regulation, the British Sports Minister Richard Caborn said the UK Government viewed Alderney as a highly reputable remote gambling jurisdiction and had no criticism of the activities conducted by online gambling operators licensed by the island.
