The bookmaker has appointed investment bank Lehman Brothers to advise on a possible listing.
The company is the third-biggest bookmaker in the UK and is controlled by private equity firm Charterhouse, which backed a management buyout in 2002.
Coral\’s management, led by Chief Executive Vaughn Ashdown, owns 16% of the business, which includes online and telephone betting operations, as well as 1,260 betting shops.
The bookmaker founded in 1926 reported operating profits of £145m on total sales for £5.4bn in the last financial year.
