The tribunal ordered to replay all 11 soccer matches officiated by Edilson Pereira de Carvalho “with the current squads” and even if it did not appear that Carvalho had attempted to fix the result.
The Brazilian soccer referee admitted during a televsion interview that he took bribes from an illegal betting ring to influence the results of the matches.
Carvalho, which spent five days in police custody, said he has been seduced by the idea of earning easy money.
Another referee in the Brazilian second division, Paulo Jose Danelon, admitted to have fixed three games in exchange for money and accused a third man to be the link with the internet betting interests.
Following the scandal, the President of the National Commission of Referees and the President of the Brazilian Soccer Confederation announced the creation of a commission to monitor referees both on an off the field.
