In the wake of the BetonSports\’ indictment, the parent company of Antigua-based BetWWTS recently announced that it will no longer accept telephone bets from US residents and will further review its US-facing business to minimize legal risk associated with the US market to the maximum practical extent.
“Our Antiguan registered business takes the bets, and in the past we were assured by our advisors that we have operated on the right side of the law. Recent events have brought some doubt into the equation,” said Colin Walker, Chief Executive of Betcorp.
According to the latest interim report, telephone bets accounted for 9 per cent of revenues, while the whole US business is believed to account for up to 85 per cent of the total.
