The UK Advertising Standards Authority ruled that the e-mail promotion had been inappropriately targeted.
Bookmakers Review reported in July about the case involving a Euro 2008 promotion reserved to recreational gamblers that was sent indiscriminately to the whole list of BetUK players.
The UK Advertising Standards Authority, after receiving two complaints from players who were denied the free bet despite they had placed £100 worth of bets specifically to qualify for it, ruled that the e-mail promotion had been inappropriately targeted.
ASA received the assurance from the Sportingbet group that changes have been made to prevent professional gamblers from receiving similar promotions in the future.
On a related note, a Sportingbet customer who was denied a free bet in a similar case in August, contacted IBAS and was later informed by Sportingbet customer service that they would honour the promotion even though it was not available to all customers.
If you still have an unresolved free bet case against either BetUK or Sportingbet, you should contact the Advertising Standards Authority at asa.org.uk.
