The merger of NSW TAB and Victoria\’s Supertab TAB pools has been ruled out by the NSW Government, which was not convinced the proposed plan would have in fact increase wagering revenues.
“A detailed analysis of the proposal has revealed there is no guarantee the merging of pools will be of benefit to the NSW taxpayer,” said Grant McBride, NSW Gaming and Racing Minister.
It is understood the NSW Government sought assurances from Tabcorp that a combined totalisator pool would not reduce wagering revenues.
Without that guarantee, the Government was not prepared to take a “commercial risk” and introduce the necessary legislative changes to enable the totalisator pools to merge.
NSW TAB currently has Australia\’s largest totalisator pool with annual wagering of more than A$4.6 billion. While Victoria\’s SuperTAB pool, which also includes Tasmania, ACT and Western Australia, has a turnover of around A$3.4 billion.
