The Australian version of Betfair, to be launched at the end of August, will run on three Sun servers for the Oracle database backend and about 55 AMD Opteron servers for the mid-tier and web infrastructure. For the storage of the transaction database and logs, the site will have a capacity of 22TB.
The betting exchange also leased two ISDN connections for redundancy from Telstra and Optus, while calls will be recorded with software from Nice Systems and retained for seven years.
Betfair Infrastructure Director Paul Moss told Computer World that the launch of Betfair Australia will represent the culmination of eight months of work, as the company had to develop its new Hobart call and data centers from scratch.
Elsewhere, PokerChamps.com told InfoPowa and Online-Casinos.com that the decision to close US accounts and exclude US players was not a consequence of the recent developments involving BetonSports, but has been the long standing position of Betfair, which acquired PokerChamps in November 2005. In the near future, Betfair Poker, currently a licensee of CryptoLogic, will be joining an updated version of the PokerChamps platform.
