Washington Huskies vs. UCLA Bruins

Friday, September 30, 2022 – 10:30 PM EDT at Rose Bowl

There’s a new game in Los Angeles that is all the rage, and it’s called Count the Empty Seats in the Rose Bowl when the UCLA Bruins take the field, with the over/under for this week’s contest against the Washington Huskies currently at 37% capacity.

If the final count does exceed that mark, it likely means a lot of the ticketholders dropped down from Washington to see their No. 15 Huskies play their first road game of the season, which they will be doing as favorites on the NCAAF odds in a clash of unbeatens with the Bruins.

Penix Leading High-Octane Huskies Attack

Washington moved to 4-0 this past weekend with a 40-22 win over Stanford up in Seattle where Michael Penix Jr. directed a balanced Huskies attack and the team took advantage of three Cardinal turnovers to cover as nearly 2-TD chalk at BetOnline.

Penix tops the nation averaging close to 350 yards per game through the air, with a 12:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio, and while it’s the passing game leading the way for Kalen DeBoer’s Washington team, the running game has complemented nicely.

Bruins Also Off to Hot Start on Offense

While the school and the athletic department are in a bit of turmoil regarding UCLA’s possible move to the Big Ten, that hasn’t affected Chip Kelly and the football team that is churning out yards and putting up points.

The Bruins are back home after they moved to 4-0 with a 45-17 decision last weekend in Boulder where Zach Charbonnet diced the Colorado defense with 9 carries for more than 100 yards, 3 of those totes crossing the goal to help cover as 3-TD chalk at top-rated sportsbooks.

Washington vs. UCLA: Pick and Prediction

We’ve seen some line movement towards Washington already in this one, the Huskies originally posted as 2½-point favorites and that spread is up to 3½.

I like Washington as the NCAAF pick, but love the total, which has also been on the rise, more in a shootout that ends 37-34 for one side or the other.

North Carolina State Wolfpack vs. Clemson Tigers

Saturday, October 1, 2022 - 07:30 PM EDT at Memorial Stadium

From one game that should be a shootout under the lights on Friday out on the West Coast, to a Saturday evening matchup that figures to feature defense back east where the North Carolina State Wolfpack and Clemson Tigers square off in a huge ACC contest.

Clemson officially opened as 7-point chalk, the number since dropping to -6½ at most shops on BMR’s live odds board, and the 40½-point total is currently the lowest on the Week 5 card.

Tough ACC Opener for NC State

We give our due respect to the job Dave Doeren and his staff have done to put Wolfpack football on the map and into the ACC conversation as the No. 10 team in the country, and they have a chance to show that’s no fluke playing in a tough venue like Clemson’s Memorial Stadium.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers had a tougher time with Wake Forest last week than anticipated, needing two overtimes in Winston-Salem to overcome the Demon Deacons in a 51-45 final that saw the two sides combine for more than 1,000 yards without a turnover.

Tigers in Revenge Mode

We know that many Clemson fans circled this game on their calendar when the schedule was released, and we also know Swinney and the Tigers have been thinking about the rematch since falling in overtime in Raleigh a year ago as double-digit favorites.

That Wolfpack victory stopped a 7-game Clemson win streak in the rivalry that is being renewed for the 90th time this Saturday, and the Tigers stand 59-29-1 in the series while winning the last nine encounters on their home field.

  • This is the first time since 2011 that NC State is not a double-digit underdog.
  • The last three contests played at Clemson fell short of the totals.

Rain in Saturday Forecast

In case you haven’t already been following information regarding Hurricane Ian, that storm is expected to bring rain to the Southeast in general, and South Carolina specifically, later this week, and that is one reason we’ve seen this total drop in early betting.

I’m going contrarian to that as well as ignoring the totals trend in recent meetings between these two teams when they get together at Clemson. I like the Tigers right on that touchdown spread in a 28-21 final.
