Brigham Young Cougars vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Saturday, October 08, 2022 – 07:30 PM EDT at Allegiant Stadium

BYU vs. Notre Dame Analysis

This is not a home game for Notre Dame even though they are on the right side of this matchup, or bottom if you are looking at an odds board.

Even casual sports bettors know that the team to the right or on the bottom is the designated home team, but I am convinced the majority of recreational bettors will believe this game is being held in South Bend and will assume the point spread includes that home field advantage for the Irish.

Okay, now that we have that out of the way and understand this game will be played at the home of the Las Vegas Raiders, we can talk about BYU being the 16th-ranked team in the nation and enter with a 4-1 record (2-3 ATS).

Meanwhile, Notre Dame, ranked in the top 10 in the preseason, has tumbled from that lofty perch due to their 2-2 record (2-2 ATS) but coming off of an impressive 45-32 win over UNC as three-point road dogs.

BYU vs. Notre Dame: Pick and Prediction

The Irish are a team that has loads of potential and a stunning 21-20 loss to Marshall as 20-point home chalk earlier this season obliterated any hope that Notre Dame would be in the CFP conversation this year. But every team has a clunker and that was theirs.

However, a hard-fought loss to Ohio State and a terrific performance last week over North Carolina should give this team momentum heading into this one.

This game opened at Notre Dame -2½, but that number has vanished as the money is streaming in on the Irish to where it is as high as -4 at some shops.

I don’t think the Cougars are a big-time program despite their impressive record and I like the Irish to cover the number here despite the neutral site venue.

Predicted Score: Notre Dame 31 - BYU 24

South Carolina Gamecocks vs. Kentucky Wildcats

Saturday, October 08, 2022 - 07:30 PM EDT at Kroger Field

South Carolina vs. Kentucky Analysis

South Carolina checks in with a 3-2 record (2-3 ATS) and has beaten up the soft opponents like Georgia State, Charlotte, and most recently South Carolina State (50-10) but predictably lost to the big boys like Arkansas (44-30) and Georgia (48-7).

Kentucky has surpassed expectations this season, but lost their first game of the season last week when they bowed, 22-19, to Ole Miss in Oxford as six-point road chalk.

They dug themselves into a 14-point first-quarter hole before making a game of it but ultimately came up empty.

South Carolina vs. Kentucky: Pick and Prediction

The Wildcats have been a veritable ATM for their backers in this series considering they have covered the number in eight of the last nine meetings with the Gamecocks.

While neither team has much of a rushing attack, Kentucky can make things happen through the air, averaging 281 yards per game (32nd) while South Carolina has middling offensive stats, but even those are padded by the several tin cans they faced early in the season.

Kentucky is a legitimate power and we have seen the Gamecocks fold like a cheap suit when faced against a superior team.

Let’s follow the trends and bet the Cats to cover the 10 ½ point impost in this one.

Predicted Score: Kentucky 37 - South Carolina 24

Oregon Ducks vs. Arizona Wildcats

Saturday, October 08, 2022 - 09:00 PM EDT at Arizona Stadium

Oregon vs. Arizona Analysis

The Ducks were annihilated by Georgia, 49-3, in their opening game of the season, but have not lost since that time and check into this Pac-12 showdown with a 4-1 record (3-2 ATS).

Their most recent game was a 45-27 victory over Stanford in which they eked out a cover as 17-point home favorites.

Arizona is 3-2 straight up (3-2 ATS) and defeated Colorado, 43-20, last week covering the 18-point impost courtesy of a fourth-quarter passing touchdown that saw Jayden de Laura toss one of his six passing touchdowns to Michael Wiley.

Oregon vs. Arizona: Pick and Prediction

Oregon crushed Arizona last season 41-19, but it wasn’t nearly enough to cover as 29 ½ point home favorites. But the venue has shifted to the desert this season and the Ducks have lost and failed to cover both of their road games thus far.

On the flip side, the Wildcats are 2-1 straight up and against the number at Arizona Stadium and have the chops to hang and bang with the Ducks, especially getting as many points as the top-rated sportsbooks are giving us on this one.

Arizona will take to the air, as that’s what they do best, averaging 340 passing yards per game (9th) against Oregon’s 119th-ranked pass defense, allowing 282.2 yards per contest.

That alone should keep this one within the margins. Let’s grab the bundle and back the home dog here.

Predicted Score: Oregon 38 - Arizona 31

NCAAF Pick: Arizona +13½ (-108) at Heritage Sports (visit our Heritage Sports Review)
