Eastern Michigan Eagles vs. Kent State Golden Flashes

Wednesday, November 16, 2022 – 06:00 PM EST at Dix Stadium

The last time we saw Eastern Michigan, they were busy putting the finishing touches on the Zips in a 34-28 victory, and pushing as 6-point road chalk. The Eagles controlled the pace and tempo of the game until they relaxed and allowed Akron to score 2 touchdowns in the fourth quarter, stealing an easy cover away from all who backed Eastern Michigan.

Kent State enters this matchup with a 4-6 mark after hammering Bowling Green, 40-6, as 3-point road favorites. Collin Schlee had 214 yards through the air along with 3 touchdowns and one pick while the Golden Flashes’ ground attack racked up 201 yards, including a rushing touchdown courtesy of the aforementioned Collin Schlee.

Picks and Prediction

The most recent common opponent between these 2 teams is conference rival, Akron.

Three weeks ago, Kent State defeated the Zips, 33-27, at home while last week the Eagles beat them by an almost identical score (34-28). And although the Eagles are 6-4 (4-5-1 ATS) and gunning for a bowl game, Kent State is 4-6 straight up and against the spread yet they are being offered as 7.5-point favorites. Really?

Neither team is exceptional at anything, however, Kent State does have a stout run-stop unit, ranked 19th in the nation. Sorry, but that’s not enough for me to not want to grab north of a touchdown and lock in as soon as humanly possible. Bet the road pup here.

Score Prediction: Kent State 34 - Eastern Michigan 31

Miami (OH) RedHawks vs. Northern Illinois Huskies

Wednesday, November 16, 2022 - 07:00 PM EST at Brigham Field at Huskie Stadium

The RedHawks were installed as 3-point home chalk over Ohio last week, but the oddsmakers had the wrong favorite as the Bobcats dissected the Miami (OH) secondary for 362 passing yards and 3 touchdowns along with 194 rushing yards, en route to a 37-21 victory.

Northern Illinois delivered a gritty 24-21 win over Western Michigan in hostile territory, as one-point road favorites. Despite a less-than-stellar performance by quarterback Nevan Cremascoli who was 8-of-17 for 133 yards with 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions, the rushing attack was on point with running back Jaiden Credle being worked like a rented mule with 36 carries for 136 of the Huskies’ 220 rushing yards.

Picks and Prediction

Miami of Ohio has won and covered its last 2 meetings with Northern Illinois and has covered 7 of its last 8 meetings with the Huskies. Both teams are 4-6 straight up and ATS, but the RedHawks' defense will tell the tale in this one.

Neither offense is anything to brag about, which is why the team with the vastly superior defense (ranked 22nd rushing defense and 43rd in points allowed) will get the job done.

Here we will take a not-so-bold chance with the points and the moneyline on Miami of Ohio at the best sportsbooks.

Score Prediction: Miami (OH) 24 - Northern Illinois 20

Western Michigan Broncos vs. Central Michigan Chippewas

Wednesday, November 16, 2022 - 08:00 PM EST at Kelly/Shorts Stadium

If we take a look at the last time Western Michigan was in action, we see the Broncos were in the midst of dropping the 4th of their last 5 games, via a 24-21 setback to Northern Illinois. The Broncos are now mired in the muck of the MAC West with the team they lost to last week.

Central Michigan has begun putting the pieces together over the last several weeks, winning 3 of their last 4. The Chippewas were coming off of a 35-22 win over Northern Illinois as 4.5-point road dogs when they added a 31-27 home win over Buffalo to their record. Bert Emanuel Jr. was a steamroller with 293 yards on 24 carries including 3 trips to the end zone.

Picks and Prediction

Central Michigan claimed a 42-30 win over Western Michigan last year and covered as 9-point favorites.

I think we are looking at a similar scenario this year as the Chippewas have an increasingly stronger defense that is now ranked 53rd against the run and 55th in total yards allowed that will be facing a WMU offense that is 121st in total yards and 117th in points scored.

The Broncos have to realize they can’t win if you can’t score and I say this one will be a romp with the Chippewas winning easily by double-digits.

Score Prediction: Central Michigan 31 - Western Michigan 13
