Central Michigan Chippewas vs. Northern Illinois Huskies

Wednesday, November 2, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at Huskie Stadium

This game features a pair of MAC West cellar-dwellers with identical 1-3 conference and 2-6 overall records.

The only people who care about this game are the students and alumni of both schools, as well as those who are looking to make a few bucks on a game that could be so irrelevant that the oddsmakers don’t pay too much attention to it.

The only problem is that it is only one of two college games on Wednesday night which will give it the proverbial spotlight even if it isn’t warranted.

But with that, we can still make money on this game as we see the Central Michigan Chippewas coming off of a 34-18 loss to Bowling Green two Saturdays ago while Northern Illinois also bowed, 24-17, as three-point road chalk to Ohio.

Pick and Prediction

You’re probably not surprised that neither team has fared well at the betting windows with Central Michigan a dismal 2-5-1 ATS while Northern Illinois is 3-5 against the spread.

The Huskies pulled an upset last year as 6-point road dogs with a 39-38 victory over the Chippewas, breaking a streak of seven consecutive Central Michigan covers in this series.

There are only two things either of these teams does well, statistically speaking, and that’s running the ball and stopping the run. The Northern Illinois offense is the former while their defense is the latter.

Outside of that, neither team has anything to be proud of and it would make sense that the Huskies will ground and pound the Chips into submission until they say, uncle. This is a good spot to lay the points in top-rated sportsbooks and watch this game go low.

Score Prediction: Northern Illinois 30 - Central Michigan 23

Western Michigan Broncos vs. Bowling Green Falcons

Wednesday, November 2, 2022 - 07:00 PM EDT at Doyt L. Perry Stadium

These teams haven’t met since 2019 when Western Michigan put a 49-10 hurt on Bowling Green and easily covered the number as 26 ½ point home favorites.

This season hasn’t been terrific for the Broncos as they are 3-5 straight-up and against the spread. In their last outing, they pulled off their most impressive win of the season with a 16-10 victory over Miami of Ohio as 7 ½ point road dogs.

The Falcons are 4-4 on the season (3-4-1 ATS) and they too scored an upset victory over Miami-O as 7-point dogs with a 17-13 win three weeks ago.

They followed that up with a 34-18 road win over lowly Central Michigan and covered for the second consecutive week, this time as a six-point road pup.

Pick and Prediction

Bowling Green is playing good football as of late and it should extend into this Wednesday night showdown after both teams have had 10 days to rest and lick their wounds.

Western Michigan has a woeful offense that only has a chance of scoring because Bowling Green’s defense is equally as offensive.

However, this game favors the home team, the Falcons, because they have been playing much better ball recently and there are a few trends to consider as we look to put our money where our mouth is.

  • Western Michigan is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in November.
  • Western Michigan is 2-9-2 ATS in their last 13 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.
  • Western Michigan is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a bye week.

Total Trends

  • Over is 7-0 in Western Michigan’s last 7 Wednesday games.
  • Over is 8-1 in Western Michigan’s last 9 games following a bye week.
  • Over is 5-0 in Bowling Green’s last 5 games following an ATS win.
  • Over is 6-2 in Bowling Green’s last 8 games overall.

Lastly, we should also note that Bowling Green’s senior quarterback, Matt McDonald, was positively surgical in his last performance, connecting on 18-of-21 passes for 253 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Bowling Green’s 16-point win over CMU.

McDonald will have essentially the same pass defense staring him down this week as CMU’s pass defense is ranked 89th while Western Michigan’s is ranked 80th in the nation.

This should be an opportunity for the Falcons to keep on rolling so let’s roll with them!
