Syracuse Orange vs. Pittsburgh Panthers

Saturday, November 05, 2022 – 03:30 PM EDT at Acrisure Stadium

Talk about a season going south in a hurry. A perfect 6-0 start to the campaign came and went for Syracuse with consecutive losses the past 2 weeks, and now the Orange travel a bit south to Pittsburgh to face a Panthers squad that is hungry for an upset.

This matchup begins a tough November for the Orange who will be on the road for 3 of their 4 contests during the month, with only the season finale at Boston College one that could be called a likely win.

Both Sides Have Dropped Last 2 Games

The collapse at Clemson a couple of weeks ago really stung Dino Babers and Syracuse, and the letdown showed last Saturday when Notre Dame's defense dominated in a 41-24 win at the old Carrier Dome.

Syracuse quarterback Garrett Shrader took a knee to the helmet and sat the second half of that loss, which closed as a pick at BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), and the junior is listed as questionable though Babers insists it is not a head injury.

Pittsburgh has also lost 2 in a row, both coming on the road with the latest this past weekend in Chapel Hill where the Tar Heels overcame a 10-point deficit in the third quarter to administer a 42-24 beating on the Panthers. North Carolina closed as field goal chalk.

Pittsburgh Has Won Last 4 Games

Pittsburgh has a 42-31-2 lead in the rivalry. The Panthers have managed to move out front in the series by dominating the Orange this millennium, winning 17 of the last 20 meetings with Syracuse having to vacate one of its 3 wins due to NCAA violations.

Last year’s 31-14 win for the Panthers was their 4th in a row over the Orange and was enough for Pittsburgh to cover the NCAAF odds for the 3rd time in the last 4 clashes with Syracuse. 3 of the last 4 matchups also came up short of the totals.

Syracuse to End Skid in Iron City

Pittsburgh still needs a couple of wins this month to become eligible, and the Panthers are favored by 3.5 to pick up one of those dubious against the Orange.

The Pick

I’m putting my faith in Baber’s bunch. Syracuse wins, 27-21.

Clemson Tigers vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Saturday, November 5, 2022 - 07:30 PM EDT at Notre Dame Stadium

Okay, Notre Dame isn’t officially in the ACC when it comes to pigskin play, but the Fighting Irish spend a good portion of their schedule taking on teams from the conference and have a chance to really grab the nation’s attention when the Clemson Tigers come to South Bend.

Defensive Game According to the Odds

Despite Clemson sitting No. 5 and Notre Dame’s struggles overall this year, there are some tight odds for this prime-time showdown. Playing the Tigers means giving up 4.5 points and betting on the scoreboard means having to decide on a 46.5-point total.

Both Teams Coming off Wins Over Orange

Clemson took last week off following a comeback in Week 8 to beat Syracuse that kept the Tigers’ College Football Playoff hopes alive. Even though he was benched in the second half against the Orange, DJ Uiagalelei is expected to be under center for Clemson this week.

Notre Dame followed up Clemson’s win over the Orange with a 41-24 win of its own in Syracuse. The Fighting Irish took control on defense from the very start with a Pick-6 on Syracuse’s very first play from scrimmage.

Teams Split Covers in Last 4 Meetings

This will be the 5th matchup between Clemson and Notre Dame since the Fighting Irish at least became a stepchild in the ACC, and the Tigers have won 3 of the previous 4 to own a 4-2 record in the all-time series.

Last year’s contest at Clemson, saw the Tigers choke off the Notre Dame ground game in a 34-10 final that covered an 11.5-point spread and came up short of the total at the best sportsbooks for the 3rd time in the last 4 encounters.

Wet, Chilly, and Windy Is the Forecast

It’s not going to be a Chamber of Commerce fall evening in South Bend where the weatherman is calling for a 50%-60% chance of showers, temps in the 50s, and an SW wind that will gust up to 25 mph.

The Pick

Notre Dame is certainly playing better than it was earlier this season, but it won’t be good enough to beat the Tigers. My college football pick is a 30-16 win for the visitors
