Several mismatches are part of the early Week 3 college football betting card, and we’re looking at four of those contests to see where the value might be.
From a Bloody Mary with your brunch to a cold beer with your lunch, your drink of choice for the early games on Saturday’s NCAA football schedule depends on which time zone you reside.
Regardless of the geography involved, we’ve got you covered with a winning four-pack.
Oklahoma Sooners vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers
Saturday, September 17, 2022 – 12:00 PM EDT at Memorial Stadium
Oklahoma vs. Nebraska Analysis
The question isn’t whether or not Oklahoma will beat Nebraska when the Sooners visit Lincoln on Saturday. They will.
No, the real question is whether or not the Cornhuskers are ever going to find a coach to guide the program back to its former glory after the school fired Scott Frost just three games into the 2022 season.
Old Rivals Meet for 88th Time
Time What a mess for Mickey Joseph to walk into as the former assistant takes on the dreaded interim head coach tag.
Before the end of the week, I expect the transfer portal to add Nebraska players just in advance of the Cornhuskers and Sooners meeting for the 88th time.
Boomer Sooner! OU Covers Oklahoma went out as a 2-TD favorite and the spread is down to 11 at Bookmaker. Give me the Sooners all day long in a 40-24 final.
Connecticut Huskies vs. Michigan Wolverines
Saturday, September 17, 2022 - 12:00 PM EDT at Michigan Stadium
Connecticut vs. Michigan Analysis
From a rivalry with a lot of tradition to a matchup between a couple of teams with almost no history, not to mention the clash between the UConn Huskies and Michigan Wolverines sports one of the biggest spreads on the Week 3 slate.
A Massacre in Ann Arbor? There’s not much really to discuss here. Jim Mora might eventually get the Huskies pointed in the direction of at least being a respectable opponent, but UConn is fodder for even the dregs of Power 5 teams right now.
Jim Harbaugh, meanwhile, has the only team that can present a serious challenge to Ohio State in the Big Ten standings, though we can’t really commit to that yet as Michigan takes on its third consecutive patsy to open the season.
Connecticut vs. Michigan: Best Bet
There’s just no fun for yours truly in laying 46-47 points like the Wolverines are favored, but that’s where the value is. Michigan skates in a 54-3 laugher.
Texas State Bobcats vs. Baylor Bears
Saturday, September 17, 2022 - 12:00 PM EDT at McLane Stadium
Texas State vs. Baylor Analysis
While it’s a 130-mile straight shot up the interstate for Texas State to travel for its game at Baylor, no trip is ever quick on I-35 and the Bobcats could be in for a long, sad bus ride back home after the Bears get through with them.
Baylor Upset by OT Loss at BYU While Baylor may have been a small underdog at BYU last Saturday night, David Aranda and the Bears look at their 26-20 loss in double-overtime as an upset after struggling to put points on the board.
Jake Spavital and the Bobcats put a 41 spot in Florida International while holding the Panthers to 12, and that was plenty to beat the 2-TD spread.
Texas State will find the sledding much tougher against this Bears defense.
Texas State vs. Baylor: Best Bet
Will Aranda and the Bears be mad enough to run it up on Texas State to cover the big 30-point spread?
Possibly, but instead, I’ll be adding a play on the final coming up short of the 53-point total to my college football picks. Baylor wins it 38-10.
NCAAF Pick: Texas St/Baylor Under 53 (-108) at Heritage Sports
Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Miami-Ohio RedHawks
Saturday, September 17, 2022 - 12:00 PM EDT at Paycor Stadium
Miami-Ohio RedHawks Analysis
Technically, the Miami-Ohio Bobcats have a neutral-site contest in this Buckeye State showdown. But the contest is being played in Cincinnati’s backyard, and that’s partly behind the Bearcats being 3-TD favorites with 50 for the total.
Can the ‘Hawks beat Cincy for 1st time since 2005? Cincinnati will be trying to add to its 15-game win streak in the rivalry, the Bearcats covering the last four get-togethers while six of the last eight meetings failed to make it to the totals on NCAA football odds boards.
Cincinnati Bearcats Analysis
After falling behind early and coming up short at Arkansas in the season opener, Luck Fickell’s Bearcats took out their frustrations last week in a 63-10 whipping of overmatched Kennesaw State, more than enough to cover a 29-point spread.
Cincinnati vs. Miami-Ohio: Best Bet
Miami pulled even on the season last week with an expected win over Robert Morris University, but Chuck Martin’s team didn’t live up to expectations on the offensive side and fell short of covering the game.
The RedHawks won’t end the Bearcats’ dominance in this rivalry, but I do like “Old Miami, New Miami” to stay inside the number of a 33-17 Cincinnati decision.
NCAAF Pick: Miami-OH +21 (-108) at Heritage Sports
