Central Michigan Chippewas vs. Western Michigan Broncos
Wednesday, November 03, 2021 – 07:00 PM EDT at Waldo Stadium
The Central Michigan Chippewas lost a heartbreaker on October 23, losing to Northern Illinois, 39-38 in stunning fashion. However, prior to that loss, Central Michigan won three of their last four and are still competitive at 4-4 on the year. Meanwhile, Central Michigan will visit Western Michigan, on the road on Wednesday night. The Broncos are coming off a 34-15 loss to Toledo as the offense slumped in that game.
Usually, the Western Michigan offense doesn’t slump like that. They’re averaging 29 points per game along with 433.4 yards of offense with Kaleb Eleby under center. He’s got 12 touchdowns and two interceptions on the year and has guided Western Michigan to a 5-3 record. The pass protection could be better for Eleby but overall, the offense has so much potential every night.
However, it’s going to be hard against a Central Michigan defense that is one of the better defenses in the MAC this season.
Forget that Central Michigan is giving up 409.9 yards per game. The rushing defense and pass rush has been way above average while tackling hasn’t been that big of an issue either. The coverage is a bit weak and that’s the one area Western Michigan could dominate against Central Michigan.
Meanwhile, Western Michigan’s defense is chaotic. Yet, the Broncos allow fewer points than Central Michigan per game this season. You can beat Western Michigan in the run game or in the passing game and Western Michigan also misses way more tackles than Central Michigan does.
Therefore, for my college football pick, I’ll take Central Michigan all day against the spread and I wouldn’t even mind taking a sprinkle on Central Michigan to win this game outright.
Northern Illinois Huskies vs. Kent State Golden Flashes
Wednesday, November 03, 2021 - 07:00 PM EDT at Dix Stadium
The Northern Illinois Huskies are 6-2 on the year with five straight wins. The offense has exploded and will look to continue their explosion on the road against Kent State.
Last week, Northern Illinois finally got a little something out of Rocky Lombardi, the Michigan State junior transfer. Lombardi threw for 348 yards on just 17 completions with three touchdowns. That’s basically what Northern Illinois has been waiting for. The offense has been scoring 29.8 points per game but even with 29.8 points and a 6-2 record, Northern Illinois is giving up 31.5 points per game.
They’ve averaged fewer yards gained than allowed and somehow continue to win ball games on a nightly basis.
Northern Illinois and Kent State love to rush the football. Both are gaining over 220 yards rushing per game and both defenses are allowing 419 or more yards per game this season. The defenses absolutely stink. The only good thing on either side is the solid tackling from Northern Illinois.
The Huskies can pull out an upset but either way, this game should be an absolute shootout. I’ll grab the over in this matchup.
