Ball State Cardinals vs. Akron Zips

Tuesday, November 02, 2021 – 07:00 PM EDT at InfoCision Stadium-Summa Field

The Ball State Cardinals are just 4-4 on the season after starting the year 0-3 and now will take on the Akron Zips, who are just 2-5. The Cardinals have so much potential but have yet to be consistent this year behind senior quarterback Drew Plitt. Ball State ended up losing their last bout against Miami (Ohio), 24-17 on October 23, and are really just playing underwhelming football throughout the season.

However, despite all of this, Ball State found a way to defeat Army, Western Michigan, and Eastern Michigan, all three of whom have to bowl potential this season. So which Ball State team will we get against Akron? Ball State has only scored 24.5 points per game while giving up 27.9 points per game. The offense is averaging just 334.4 yards per game, which is again, something at the start of the season that nobody expected.

Meanwhile, the defense is giving up 394 points per game and nearly 160 yards rushing per game. For Ball State, the rushing defense isn’t all that bad. They’ve played some teams that only run the football like Army. However, the coverage is awful. Thankfully for Ball State’s sake, Akron has one of the worst pass protection in America with an awful offensive line that I’m Ball State should plow right through.

Akron is averaging under 20 points per game while giving up 38.9 points per game. This is a spot where Ball State needs to prove how great they really can be, on the road, against a terrible Akron team. I like them to get the job done against the spread and win by more than three touchdowns.

Eastern Michigan Eagles vs. Toledo Rockets

Tuesday, November 02, 2021 - 07:30 PM EDT at The Glass Bowl

Toledo is just 4-4 in the season, yet they’re a nine-point favorite, at home, against a 5-3 Eastern Michigan team. It’s no secret how good this Toledo defense is. They’ve held teams to just 326 yards per game and 18.3 points per game. For the MAC, the Rockets are an elite defense as you’ll see as they’ve been terrific stopping the run, tackling, and in coverage. The pass rush is also very good.

However, there’s a reason why Eastern Michigan is 5-3. The offense averages 32.8 points per game while giving up 24.9 points per game. The offense isn’t all that when it comes to yards gained but they’re scoring points when they’re asked to.

Eastern Michigan is led by Ben Bryant, a senior quarterback who looks very comfortable and poised in the pocket. He’s done very well in the clutch and has plenty of big playmakers around him making plays in the run game and receiving game.

On the defensive end, the Eastern Michigan pass rush will also be very effective against a Rockets offensive line that has one of the worst pass protection in the MAC. Eastern Michigan finds ways to score and with their pass rush, I’ll happily take Eastern Michigan as a nine-point underdog. They could even pull off the upset
