Last week we cashed with a pair of underdogs as Michigan upset Ohio State and Oklahoma narrowly covered in their loss to Oklahoma State. We then got a push with Florida State giving us a 2-0-1 ATS record on Saturday. Let’s keep this money train rolling as we search for the best value on the board in our college football picks.
Kent State Golden Flashes vs. Northern Illinois Huskies
Saturday, December 4, 2021 – 12:00 PM EST at Ford Field
The matchup doesn’t have to be sexy to have value and that’s exactly what we have here as there is nothing remotely compelling about a MAC Championship game between a pair of middling division winners.
That’s right, Kent State checks in at 7-5 on the year while Northern Illinois is only slightly better with an 8-5 mark. This game is being played at Ford Field, home of the NFL’s Detroit Lions, so we can expect the play on the field to be slightly better than usual (wink).
The college football odds at all of the best online sportsbooks opened Northern Illinois at -2 but that number has drifted onto and over the magic 3 to where it currently stands at 3 ½ as the money is pouring in on Northern Illinois.
However, finding value is the name of the game and we have it with a generous head start for a Kent State team that has won and covered four of its last five games and has averaged a whopping 40 points per game over that span. What’s not to like?!
Georgia Bulldogs vs. Alabama Crimson Tide
Saturday, December 4, 2021 - 4:00 PM EST at Mercedes-Benz Stadium
If Alabama beats Georgia, we could very well see a rematch of this contest in the College Football Playoff. However, if the Bulldogs come away the victors, it could mean the Tide is on the outside looking in on the CFP. But either way, we are grabbing the points with Nick Saban’s talented crew as this line has jumped from Georgia -3 ½ to -6 ½ which gives us tremendous value on the Crimson Tide.
Believe it or not, this is the first time in six years that the Tide enters a game as an underdog. That is a string of 92 consecutive games and the last time it happened they played Georgia and beat the Bulldogs, 38-10.
Alabama has won the last six meetings against Georgia and now we are getting nearly a touchdown head start with a Heisman Trophy favorite pulling the trigger for the Tide. That’s too tempting to ignore and we won’t. Watch the Tide roll right into the College Football Playoff with an outright win here. But we’ll take the points just in case!
Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. Pittsburgh Panthers
Saturday, December 4, 2021 - 8:00 PM EST at Bank of America Stadium
It’s odd not to see Clemson in this game as this ACC title tilt has become more of a coronation rather than a competition for the Tigers in recent memory. But instead, we see a couple of evenly matched and talented 10-2 teams as Wake Forest throws down with Pittsburgh to determine this year’s king of the conference.
Pittsburgh opened as 1 ½ point favorites but that number has spiked to 3 ½, and when that happens you know what side we’ll be on, right? Wake Forest with north of a field goal looks mighty fine to us as this will be a battle of explosive offenses with Wake Forest averaging 42.9 points per game which ranks them No. 3 in that category while Pittsburgh is a micro click below at 42.8 PPG and good for fourth in the nation.
But the one big thing the Demon Deacons have going for them is the disparity in their prolific passing game versus the Panthers' woeful pass defense. Wake Forest’s 11th ranked passing attack will shred Pittsburgh’s 113th ranked pass defense and that will tell the tale in this one. Don’t be surprised if Wake wins this one outright but as long as the books are giving us 3 ½ points, we will gladly take it.
