Over the past three years, three different teams in the SEC have won the National Championship. Two of them were in the SEC West. With the surge of the Texas A&M Aggies, another team is looking to make that impressive list.

The Aggies almost made the College Football Playoff two years ago. Last season, they finally beat the Alabama Crimson Tide with Jimbo Fisher as their head coach. They are taking steps in the right direction, and the rules of college football are helping them.

NIL laws are changing the landscape of college football. The Aggies deserve credit for doing their part, but the fact remains that their resources helped them recruit the best on-paper recruiting class in the history of college football.

All of this is great, but can Texas A&M go all the way? According to BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), they have +1400 odds to win a title this season. This has them tied at third overall in the country. Should you bet on them? Let’s look at the factors.

Texas A&M’s Schedule

When you are looking at value on NCAAF picks at this point in the year, one of the main things you should look at is a team’s schedule. If a team with questions has a tough schedule and you can’t see them going at least 11-1, then you shouldn’t pick them unless the odds are overwhelming.

However, a team needs a schedule that is strong enough for them to withstand an upset. Plenty of 12-1 conference champions have been discredited because of bad schedules.

Texas A&M’s schedule is in the sweet spot. The non-conference slate is underwhelming, but they at least play Miami. In the SEC, they have a traditional schedule with winnable games. They play a declining Florida and a struggling Auburn squad. They should be better than teams like Mississippi State and Arkansas. The only true challenges are against Ole Miss and Alabama, and they play the Rebels at home.

This is great for the Aggies, but they will still be gauged on a similar scale. We know that nothing matters if they can’t get past Alabama. So, can the Aggies beat the Crimson Tide for a second straight year?

Can the Aggies Beat Alabama?

Alabama comes back with motivation and the two best players in college football. Bryce Young is looking to be the second player ever to win back-to-back Heisman Trophies, and Will Anderson could set collegiate records as a pass rusher.

Also, this game will be at home. Very few teams have beaten Nick Saban in back-to-back years, and only two former Saban assistants have beaten Saban. All of these things point towards Alabama beating Texas A&M in the regular season.

However, Texas A&M can still make it to the College Football Playoff if they lose to Alabama. As long as they are 11-1 and other teams struggle, then Texas A&M should be seen as one of the four best teams in the country.

Still, the Aggies inevitably have to get past Alabama to win a title. If they don’t do it in the regular season, then they have to beat them in the College Football Playoff. They proved that they are capable of beating them, but the Tide should be a stronger team in 2022.

This paints the picture, but should you bet on Texas A&M at this value?

Should You Bet on the Aggies?

The Aggies will have a strong roster and a winnable schedule. If Max Johnson stays healthy and develops as a quarterback, then this team can go 11-1. However, the one way to measure this team is against Alabama. I don’t see the Texas A&M Aggies beating the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2022.

We can have a new discussion once the 2022 recruiting class is ready to contribute on both sides of the ball, but they won’t do enough as freshmen to beat one of the best teams in college football. They certainly won’t do it in Tuscaloosa, and it is more likely for them to be upset by another team than it is for them to win the title after an 11-1 regular season and no conference championship.
