Bit of a light schedule in the college basketball odds chart this Wednesday, but we’ve got two betting picks to parlay that we expect to win just like we did Monday.

Here is which way to lean at BMR’s top-rated books

American Eagles vs. Marist Red Foxes

Wednesday, November 9, 2022 – 07:00 PM EST at McCann Arena

It’s the season opener for American, which is a Patriot League team that finished 10-22 last season. Colin Smalls (10.7 ppg) is American's returning leading scorer. The Eagles were picked to finish seventh in the Patriot League

It’s also the opener for MAAC school Marist, which was 14-16 last year. Five players (four scholarship) return from last season, and the Red Foxes bring back 12% of their scoring from a year ago. The Red Foxes were picked to finish seventh in this season's MAAC preseason poll

Of the 14 players on Marist's roster, nine did not play for the Red Foxes last season. Four transfers joined Marist: Stephane Ingo (graduate, last four years at Maine); Anthony Cooper (graduate, last four years at Caldwell); Patrick Gardner (graduate, last two years at Saint Michael's), and Kam Farris (junior, last two years at Robert Morris).

Will History Repeat Itself?

If Marist opening on Nov. 9 against American sounds familiar, it’s because they also did last year and American won at home 77-73 in overtime. Raheim Sullivan led American with 23 points, but he’s gone now.

Simulations I have run have Marist winning by about 6 points, but we’ll just take the moneyline.

NCAAB Pick: Marist ML (-125) at BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review)

Lipscomb Bisons vs. South Dakota Coyotes

Wednesday, November 9, 2022 - 08:00 PM EST at Sanford Coyote Sports Center

It’s the season debut for Lipscomb, an Atlantic Sun program that was 14-19 last year. The team’s best returning player is Ahsan Asadullah, who was named to the ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team. Asadullah was one of just three unanimous selections on the team, joining Kevion Nolan of Jacksonville and Liberty's Darius McGhee, who was named Preseason Player of the Year.

Last season, Asadullah averaged 15.2 points, 9.0 rebounds per game and 4.6 assists per game. Although he missed the month of December, he still managed to rank among the leaders in the ASUN in multiple categories, including rebounding (2nd – 9.0), total defensive boards (2nd – 187) and total rebounds (3rd – 226). Asadullah posted the second-most double-doubles in the ASUN with 13, the 21st most in the nation. For the fourth straight season, he shot better than 50% from the floor.

Thing is, the Bisons don’t have much else. They were picked to finish sixth in the ASUN preseason poll, voted on by the league's head coaches. In the media poll, Lipscomb was predicted to finish eighth.

South Dakota finished with a 19-12 record last season. The Coyotes made it to the Summit League Tournament semifinals before losing to eventual champion South Dakota State in the semifinals. The Coyotes return their top three scorers from last season in Kruz Perrott-Hunt (15.0 ppg), Mason Archambault (14.5 ppg), and Tasos Kamateros (11.5 ppg). 2020-21 Summit League Newcomer of the Year A.J. Plitzuweit returns after sitting out last season recovering from a knee injury. Plitzuweit averaged 19 points per game and 3.9 assists two seasons ago.

What Should We Expect Today?

South Dakota played Monday and lost 85-59 at Wisconsin, but there’s obviously no shame in that. Perrott-Hunt led the Coyotes with 21 points. It was Eric Peterson's first game as South Dakota coach. South Dakota had more turnovers (10) than assists (7).

Including last season's non-conference slate, the Coyotes have had three seasons in which they did not lose a non-conference game in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. USD has won 14 of its past 15 home openers, and I have little doubt that trend will continue.
