We’ve added our favorite spread, total, and moneyline bets for tonight’s NCAAB slate. Can we sweep the board?
Although there are plenty of games on tonight’s college basketball slate, half of them are division 1 vs. a non-D1 team.
We danced around those other games and still found three games at the best sportsbooks where we see the value.
North Carolina Central Eagles vs. Appalachian State Mountaineers
Thursday, November 10, 2022 – 06:30 PM EST at George M. Holmes Convocation Center
The North Carolina Central Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers for a non-conference matchup.
North Carolina Central took a 73-61 loss against Virginia to start the season. The Eagles didn’t earn the win but had a “respectable loss.” On the other hand, Appalachian State’s opener was against a non-D1 opponent in Warren Wilson, where they won 142-74.
If anything, NC Central shot an effective field goal percentage of 49.1% and only turned the ball over 13.5% against Virginia’s defense. They also shot 42.1% against Virginia, but that’s likely not sustainable.
The Eagles shot only 41.2% from inside the arc and hit Under 65% of foul shots. When three-point shots aren’t falling, this team could struggle to score the basketball. Meanwhile, on defense, the Eagles held Virginia to 40.9% from inside the arc.
They blocked 18.2% of shots and stole the ball over 10% of the time. However, they still allowed 44% from downtown. The Eagles allowed a 54.3% effective field goal percentage, struggled on the defensive glass, and sent Virginia to the foul line at a high rate. Meanwhile, Appalachian State will play its first “real” opponent.
The Spread Pick
From the look of things, the Mountaineers have a ton of depth. They had 3 players in double figures off the bench and also shot nearly 42% from deep in their win on 36 shots.
The Mountaineers should be the better team at home. Back them at -5.
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers vs. Eastern Kentucky Colonels
Thursday, November 10, 2022 - 07:00 PM EST at Alumni Coliseum McBrayer Arena
Eastern Kentucky and Western Kentucky are projected to play a very high-tempo basketball game.
The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers will play their first game of the season. Meanwhile, Eastern Kentucky will play its first D1 matchup after defeating Miami (OH) - Middletown, 137-52. Eastern Kentucky ran away with the game after out-scoring their opponent, 78-21 in the second half.
KenPom has already ranked Western Kentucky in the projected top 100 for offensive efficiency. Eastern Kentucky is projected to be 273rd in defensive efficiency.
Eastern Kentucky was able to dominate in their opener because Miami (OH) - Middletown only hit one three-pointer on 19 tries. They’re not going to get nearly as lucky against Western Kentucky. However, the outburst in the second half at least proves that this offense is very capable.
They’re going to press, try and earn steals and score quickly. It doesn’t matter who you play.
The Over/Under Pick
If you’re able to score 70 points in one half, it’s impressive and shows the offensive capabilities of the program.
The Colonels have depth and shot nearly 50% from downtown as a team on 40 attempts. Following the NCAAB odds, I’ll take the Over 154.5.
NCAAB Pick: Over 154.5 (-110) at BetOnline
Towson Tigers vs. Massachusetts Minutemen
Thursday, November 10, 2022 - 07:00 PM EST at William D. Mullins Center
The UMass Minutemen will play their 2nd game of the season at home against the Towson Tigers.
UMass is coming off a dominating win over Central Connecticut State, 94-67. The offense had an effective field goal percentage of nearly 60% and dominated the glass, earning 44.4% of offensive rebounds. UMass also shot 47.4% from downtown, nailed 55.8% from inside, and scored 75% of foul shots.
On defense, the Minutemen kept CCSU off the foul line at a high rate, limited offensive rebounds, and held the Blue Devils to a 47.7% effective field goal percentage. Frank Martin’s team was prepared in the opening game.
On the flip side, Towson defeated Albany, 67-62 in their opener. The result wasn’t a blowout, but they did some good things. They shot 85.7% from the foul line and nailed 48.8% from inside the arc. However, Towson also shot just 25% from downtown and relied on getting to the line a lot in that game.
The Tigers also have just a 7-man rotation and probably only have 6 players that they trust offensively heading into tonight’s contest. That doesn’t excite me.
The Moneyline Pick
I’ll back the UMass Minutemen on the moneyline for our NCAAB picks.
NCAAB Pick: Massachusetts ML (-105) at BetOnline
