Most teams ended up playing their first college basketball game yesterday. But we still have a slate of games tonight, despite no ranked teams on the NCAAB odds board.

Here are my top three betting picks for tonight’s college basketball slate including these matchups:

  • Mercer Bears vs. East Carolina Pirates
  • Milwaukee Panthers vs. Purdue Boilermakers
  • Montana Grizzlies vs. Duquesne Dukes

Mercer Bears vs. East Carolina Pirates

Tuesday, November 8, 2022 – 07:00 PM EST at Minges Coliseum

Mercer Bears

The Mercer Bears will head out on the road to take on the East Carolina Pirates.

Mercer finished near .500 last season, with a 16-17 record. They also went 8-10 in the Southern Conference and lost three of their top scorers coming into the year.

Those three top scorers combined for more than 40 points per game. However, Mercer added a bunch of transfers who should make an immediate impact on their program. Sometimes, it takes time for teams with a bunch of transfers to gel and figure things out.

East Carolina Pirates

Meanwhile, East Carolina finished 15-15 on the season, with a 6-11 record in the AAC. Just like Mercer, the Pirates lost three of their top four scorers. Those players averaged more than 40 points per game.

The Pirates, like Mercer, lost a bunch of talent to the transfer portal but ended up bringing in a former Tennessee guard in Quentin Diboundje and added Ben Bayela, who was a JUCO transfer that can shoot it well from long range.

Jaden Walker was also a big transfer get from Iowa State for the Pirates. He was highly regarded out of high school and ECU is hoping that a change of scenery can get his full potential out.

The Moneyline Pick

Take East Carolina at home at -108.

Milwaukee Panthers vs. Purdue Boilermakers

Tuesday, November 8, 2022 - 06:30 PM EST at Mackey Arena

Milwaukee Panthers

The Milwaukee Panthers already played a game against Milwaukee School of Engineering, winning 102-46.

Now they’ll take on Purdue on the road as a 26-point underdog. The Panthers went from being dominant to a team that will be dominated.

But the offense is still more than capable of putting up points against Purdue. Only three players that saw more than 10 minutes of action returned for the Panthers.

The Panthers changed head coaches, which is why there was so much turnover. However, the Panthers were able to add Keon Edwards from Nebraska, who had originally gone to DePaul out of high school.

If he can lead Milwaukee, the Panthers should be able to score some points this year.

Purdue Boilermakers

Meanwhile, Purdue won’t have Jaden Ivey, Sasha Stefanovic, or Trevion Williams. Those were Purdue’s top players last season, but they’ve all either graduated or were drafted into the NBA.

Purdue still has Zach Edey, Caleb Furst and Mason Gillis in the frontcourt. But just based on pre-season stats, Purdue is ranked as the 57th best defensive team in the nation while Milwaukee’s sitting at 289.

The Over/Under Pick

I like Purdue to score at will and believe Milwaukee will be able to put some points on the board with Edwards leading the team.

Let’s grab the Over 142 in this matchup.

Montana Grizzlies vs. Duquesne Dukes

Tuesday, November 8, 2022 - 07:00 PM EST at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse

Montana Grizzlies

The Montana Grizzlies are coming into this season with Josh Bannan still on the roster. He averaged over 15 points per game and added 8.2 rebounds while shooting over 35% from last season.

Montana was also sound at the foul line, ranked as the 11th-best team in free throw percentage last year.

Duquesne Dukes

Meanwhile, Duquesne’s got a lot of different faces and new players. It’s hard to get a good feel for that roster heading into the first game of the season.

But Montana seems to have the more convincing roster this season. Aanen Moody came from Southern Utah and Dischon Thomas was added from Colorado State.

Both of those players shot over 40% from downtown. Duquesne was one of the worst teams defending the three last season and Montana also has a history of limiting turnovers.

The Spread Pick

For our final pick, we'll take Montana and the points at BetOnline, one of our top-rated sportsbooks.

NCAAB Pick: Montana +5 (-110) at BetOnline
