DePaul has won their first four games at home to start the year. Will the Blue Demons continue their streak against Northern Kentucky?
Let’s check out the NCAAB odds for this one.
Northern Kentucky Norse vs. DePaul Blue Demons
Thursday, November 25, 2021 – 05:00 PM EST at Wintrust Arena
DePaul is currently 4-0 with all four games won at home. Tonight, they’ll play another game at home against a Northern Kentucky team that has been keeping games close against subpar teams. The Norse currently has a 2-2 record with one win coming against a non-D-1 opponent.
The Blue Demons are much better than those subpar teams and should roll against Northern Kentucky tonight. DePaul has a win against a top 100 team in the nation in Rutgers and has scored over 70 points in every single game this season. The Norse have stuck around that 67-73 range so far this year.
DePaul has been solid on the offensive end, shooting an effective field goal percentage of 53.1 percent while turning the ball over just 16.9 percent. They’ve also dominated the offensive glass, grabbing nearly 40 percent of offensive rebounds, and have been getting to the line at a very high rate.
While Northern Kentucky hasn’t been fouling all that much, going up against bigger bodies should do the trick for more fouls. The Norse have also been awful on the defensive glass, allowing 38.5 percent offensive rebounds. You could imagine how DePaul might win this game with second-chance opportunities.
The Norse are allowing teams to shoot 38.1 percent from three and while DePaul doesn’t take all that many threes, they’ve hit 34.1 percent from downtown. DePaul has also scored 54 percent of their buckets inside and should be fine offensively in this game.
The Norse have turned the ball over 23.4 percent of the time and while they’ve been just as solid on the offensive glass, DePaul has been much better on the defensive glass. DePaul is the better defensive rebounding team. However, the Blue Demons struggle to defend the three as well, allowing 36.9 percent from downtown to start the season.
The Norse are shooting 40 percent from downtown but have really struggled inside the arc, shooing just 42 percent. Northern Kentucky might shoot more threes than DePaul but not by that much. This game will mostly be won in the paint and DePaul has the better bodies and numbers inside.
The only problem with DePaul is that they don’t have a bench. The Blue Demons are giving their bench under 16 percent of game action while Northern Kentucky is giving their bench 35.5 percent of the minutes.
But think about the times where Northern Kentucky goes to the bench. That’s when DePaul’s starting lineup can really do work as the better team, to begin with. DePaul’s starting lineup has way more experience in comparison to Northern Kentucky.
That should help DePaul earn a double-digit win. This team has six guys earning at least nine points per game and four players playing over 32 minutes a game. They’re all up to it by now with Javon Freeman-Liberty averaging 24.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. David Jones and Brandon Johnson each average a high amount of rebounds with Jones averaging 9.3 and Johnson averaging 8.5.
Not only are DePaul’s best players great scorers, but those players rebound extremely well. Let’s take DePaul -6 here for our NCAAB pick of the day.
