St. Bonaventure Bonnies vs. George Mason Patriots
Wednesday, January 26, 2022 – 7:00 PM EST at EagleBank Arena
The George Mason Patriots are currently on a two-game winning streak after knocking off Dayton and Saint Joseph's at home. Now the Patriots will play another home game against St. Bonaventure.
George Mason hasn't lost a home game since early December and will look to keep that streak alive against St. Bonaventure. Oddly enough, St. Bonaventure has only played three road games all year long. The Bonnies have gone 2-1 in those games but took an 18-point loss to Dayton and had to go to overtime against La Salle in two of those three games.
The Bonnies haven't been all that great offensively this season. St. Bonaventure is shooting a 49.4 percent effective field goal percentage while only hitting 31.8 percent of threes and 50.2 percent of twos. The Bonnies are effective at the line, hitting 77.2 percent, but haven't been getting to the line at a high rate, to begin with.
George Mason has limited fouls but more importantly, George Mason has limited offensive rebounds. Opponents are only getting 21.7 percent of offensive rebounds against the Patriots, which is a top-10 rate in college basketball.
On the other hand, George Mason is shooting an effective field goal percentage of 54.5 percent while knocking down 35.4 from three-point land and 55.7 percent from inside the arc.
George Mason is shooting a heavy amount of three per game and they've hit, again over 35 percent of threes. Now they'll shoot against a St. Bonaventure team that has allowed opponents to hit 34.8 percent of threes this season.
St. Bonaventure has been solid defending inside, holding opponents to a 47 percent rate from two, however, George Mason isn't easy to stop inside, knowing they've got 55.7 percent on the season.
Neither one of these teams are very deep. There's no advantage either way via the bench. Both teams are really limited with depth and will play guys with two fouls in the first half if they have to. However, both teams have been very good at limiting fouls so foul shots won't be huge in this game either.
George Mason isn't going to be very aggressive on the offensive glass either, but the Patriots should be able to make more shots in this game and should still be able to win the rebounding battle.
This is just a game between two teams that lack depth but don't lack experience. St. Bonaventure has allowed 40.8 percent of its points on the defensive end from the three-point range. Meanwhile, George Mason is scoring 38.6 percent of its points from three-point land.
So look for George Mason to have a quality day from deep and that should help them win this game, especially if George Mason stays really solid on the defensive glass as they've done all year long. For the above reasons, invest in George Mason with your NCAAB picks.
