Many games have been postponed this week with so many teams having to wait out COVID week-by-week. It’s getting ridiculous, but we’re just going to roll with the punches. At least we have a game tonight.
And it’s a good one between an ACC team and an Ivy League team that could end up winning the conference this season in Brown. Keep reading to check the NCAAB odds and start cashing out at BMR’s top-rated books!
Brown Bears vs. Syracuse Orange
Monday, December 27, 2021 – 06:00 PM EST at Carrier Dome
Brown is coming off a loss to Vermont, 70-65, at home. However, that was back on December 10th. Brown hasn’t played a game over two weeks but will get an opportunity to go up against Syracuse well-rested.
Meanwhile, Syracuse lost two straight games back in early December to Villanova and Georgetown and hasn’t played a game since December 11th. Again, just like Brown, Syracuse hasn’t played a game in over two weeks as well.
Both Teams Are at an Advantage or Disadvantage
Syracuse has been the better offense this season. The Orange have turned the ball over just 16 percent of the time while shooting an effective field goal percentage of 51.1 percent. The Orange have knocked down nearly 36 percent of threes and continue to capitalize at the line with 75.8 percent free throws made.
Defensively, however, Syracuse has struggled to rebound out of the zone. That’s always been a problem and makes a ton of sense. But with that zone, Syracuse is able to limit fouling and keeps teams off the line.
Still, the zone isn’t nearly as tight as recent years as teams have shot 34.1 percent from long range and 51.7 percent from inside the arc. Brown certainly has shot makers on their team, despite having average statistics offensively this season.
The Bears are shooting 33.3 percent from downtown and 49.4 percent from inside the arc. Against the zone, Brown could be lethal. They’ve already dominated Merrimack’s zone earlier this season and have had really good ball movement. Merrimack is no Syracuse, but that should help give us guidance here on what to bet.
Therefore, I like Brown to stick around in this game. Ultimately, Brown could finish the game with more turnovers, rebounds, and a higher shooting percentage. Of course, Syracuse will get to the line more, especially at home, but I’m not sure that will be enough to cover the gigantic spread.
For my college basketball pick, I’ll take the +10 for Brown in hopes that they make their quality looks. Brown should be able to earn offensive rebounds. They’ve got bodies and length inside and will get opportunities to grab second chances against the zone.
