We’ve got plenty more college basketball on the horizon tonight. Many tournaments are starting to play out and finish this weekend.
We’ll break down some of the games for the ESPN Invitational and Phil Knight Invitational on tonight’s slate.
Siena Saints vs. Ole Miss Rebels
Friday, November 25, 2022 – 11:00 AM EST at State Farm Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
The Siena Saints knocked off Florida State in the ESPN Events Invitational yesterday. They’ll look to do the same against a 5-0 Ole Miss team. The Ole Miss Rebels took care of Stanford with a 72-68 win to begin the tournament. They’ve also got wins over Florida Atlantic and Chattanooga.
Siena is shooting 41.3% from deep, while Ole Miss has allowed teams to shoot 36.8% from long range. The offensive efficiency is only immoral due to 22.7% of turnovers per game.
Ole Miss will earn plenty of steals and likely reach over 20% against Siena. The Rebels have also held teams to a 46.7% effective field goal percentage and rarely allow teams to the foul line.
On the other hand, Siena’s defense is weak inside the arc. The Saints are giving up 55.1% from inside the arc and are fouling at an extremely high rate. Ole Miss is very aggressive on the glass and should ultimately earn more offensive rebounds and second chances while getting to the line more.
The only way for Siena to win this game is by limiting turnovers and ultimately winning the turnover battle. Siena’s dominant on the defensive glass, but Ole Miss will be extremely hard to keep off the glass.
Following the NCAAB odds, take the Rebels to cover.
NCAAB Pick: Ole Miss -12 (-110) at BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review)
North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Iowa State Cyclones
Friday, November 25, 2022 - 05:30 PM EST at Veterans Memorial Coliseum
The North Carolina Tar Heels had a scare against Portland last night in the Phil Knight Invitational. North Carolina might be No. 1 in the AP rankings, but they’re only 19 in Ken Pom.
The Tar Heels will look to play better against Iowa State tonight. Iowa State took care of business against Villanova. That was their only big competition this season up to this point.
The Cyclones are known for their defense. They’ve held teams to a 42.4% effective field goal percentage and are earning 32.4% turnovers this season through four games. Because of their aggressiveness, Iowa State sends teams to the line at a very high rate, but opponents have shot 71.2% from the foul line, 29% from deep, and 41.3% from inside the arc.
Meanwhile, the Tar Heels rarely earn turnovers. However, the Cyclones only shoot 27.4% from downtown and rarely get to the foul line. The Cyclones should ultimately have more possessions in this game, but North Carolina still has more offensive firepower.
I’m siding with the defenses in this game.
NCAAB Pick: Under 140.5 (-110) at BetOnline
Oklahoma Sooners vs. Seton Hall Pirates
Friday, November 25, 2022 - 08:00 PM EST at State Farm Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
The Sooners lost to Sam Houston State to begin the year. Some critics panicked. However, the Sooners have won 4 straight games and knocked off Nebraska by 13 last night in the ESPN Events Invitational.
The Sooners have a strong challenge against Seton Hall tonight after the Pirates defeated Memphis on a buzzer-beating shot. Oklahoma has been weak on the offensive glass, but Seton Hall isn’t dominating the defensive glass, either.
The Pirates have allowed foul shots at a solid rate but should be able to earn turnovers due to their aggressiveness. After all, this season, they’ve held teams to a 38.7% effective field goal percentage.
Meanwhile, Seton Hall turns the ball over 22.9% of the time. However, Oklahoma doesn’t earn a high rate of turnovers in the first place. Like Seton Hall, they’ve held teams to a low effective field goal percentage and are playing terrific defense around the perimeter.
Both teams are shooting threes at an average rate this year. But those threes probably aren’t going to fall very much. Take the Under for our NCAAB picks.
Connecticut Huskies vs. Alabama Crimson Tide
Friday, November 25, 2022 - 09:30 PM EST at Veterans Memorial Coliseum
The Alabama Crimson Tide are undefeated, with top-100 wins against Michigan State and Liberty. They can earn another top-100 win against the UConn Huskies tonight. UConn defeated Oregon last night but hasn’t played the level of competition that Alabama has played up to this point.
Both teams are shooting threes at a very high rate coming into this game. Alabama has struggled to earn turnovers and is giving the ball away 21.3% of the time. UConn should be able to make more possessions. However, Alabama is likely going to get to the foul line more. The Crimson Tide have held teams to 34.8% from inside the arc.
UConn is one of the best teams in scoring inside the arc this season.
Both offenses also move at a very high pace. But I like UConn’s offense a bit more. They’ve been more consistent this season, shooting 38.7% from deep and 59.9% from inside the arc.
I’m backing UConn as the underdog in this one.
NCAAB Pick: Connecticut +1.5 (-110) at BetOnline
