Cleveland State Vikings vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys

The Cleveland State Vikings will look to continue a six-game winning streak, on the road, against Oklahoma State. After losing two straight games to start the year, the Vikings have looked extremely impressive, however, they’ve faced some really easy teams.
The Vikings took on two non-conference opponents and two teams ranked 301 or worse. However, with two wins against Northern Kentucky and Wright State, the Vikings looked poised for another big run in the Horizon League.
However, the Vikings will take a break from Horizon League to play to take on Oklahoma State. After Oklahoma State, the Vikings will have Duke on the schedule. These aren’t going to be easy opponents like Cleveland State was playing against a few weeks ago.
Oklahoma State is currently 6-3 on the season and has lost two straight against Wichita State and Xavier. The Cowboys will look to correct before having to play Houston on a neutral court after playing Cleveland State.
The Cowboys do some good things this year. Oklahoma State averages 34.5 percent offensive rebounds and gets to the foul line at a very high rate. The Cowboys don’t shoot the three-ball well but are hitting 53.1 percent from inside the arc on the year.
For Oklahoma State, it’s been the defense that has won them games this year. The Cowboys are holding opponents to a 43.1 percent effective field goal percentage while earning 26.5 percent turnovers. They’re holding opponents to 31.1 percent from behind the arc and 41.1 percent inside the arc this season.
Cleveland State, on the other hand, has done well, limiting turnovers, but against Oklahoma State, turnovers will likely start to get higher. The Vikings are shooting just 30.3 percent from downtown and 52.3 percent from inside. Despite the Vikings dominating inside, it’ll be a struggle against one of the best teams in the nation at defending inside the arc.
Cleveland State will rarely take threes in the first place. If the Vikings are going to look to score inside for most of this game, they’ll more than likely get shut down most times.
I like Oklahoma State to cover the -12.5 at home. Cleveland State should be able to force turnovers of their own in this game. The Vikings might also get to the line at a solid rate. But if Cleveland State is just going to try to score inside all game, it’s going to be a struggle.
The Cowboys have been one of the best teams in the nation on the defensive end, especially inside the paint. Meanwhile, the Vikings rarely shoot threes and always look to score inside first.
Good luck with that. I’ll take Oklahoma State -12.5 here for my college basketball picks.
