The Myrtle Beach Invitational is on today’s NCAAB slate. Four games will be played at The HTC Center in Conway, South Carolina. The first game begins at 01:30 PM EST and the last starts at 09:30 PM EST.
It’s going to be an exciting day of basketball. Here are my NCAAB picks.
Boise State Broncos vs. Charlotte 49ers
Thursday, November 17, 2022 – 07:00 PM EST at The HTC Center
The Charlotte 49ers have defeated two teams in the bottom portion of college basketball. Now they’ll take on a Boise State team that is projected to finish in the top 100 of college basketball.
Boise State lost to South Dakota State to begin the season but quickly rebounded against Washington State, in a 71-61 win. Meanwhile, Charlotte is 2-0, but again, the 49ers played two teams they were expected to beat.
The Broncos won’t dominate on the offensive glass, but neither will Charlotte. The Broncos have also struggled from three-point range and are not nearly as good offensively as the 49ers have been.
I know the level of play has been different, but Charlotte is shooting a 61.7% effective field goal percentage. They’re coming into this game with confidence, shooting 67.2% from inside and 36.7% from deep.
I’m going to give Charlotte a chance and take the points at the best sportsbooks.
Loyola Chicago Ramblers vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane
Thursday, November 17, 2022 - 09:30 PM EST at The HTC Center
Tulsa had an opening night loss to Oregon State, 73-70, but rebounded against Jackson State, winning 85-79. But Jackson State is still a bottom-tier college basketball team and the game was closer than it probably should’ve been.
On the other hand, Loyola Chicago has played in two close games as well, earning an overtime win against Fairleigh Dickinson University and a seven-point win against University of Illinois Chicago.
Neither team is playing all that well to begin the season. Loyola Chicago is turning the ball over 28.1% of the time this season and shooting 20% from downtown. However, the Ramblers are also hitting 72.7% from inside the paint.
You can expect Loyola to dominate the offensive glass and earn second chances. You can’t expect Tulsa to do the same, as they’re earning just 25.7% of offensive rebounds on the season.
The Golden Hurricane are shooting 38.3% from deep. But that number will decrease against Loyola, knowing that Loyola has allowed teams to shoot just 20.5% from deep. The Golden Hurricane are also shooting just 44.7% from inside the arc.
Let’s ride with Loyola Chicago in this one.
NCAAB Pick: Loyola Chicago -7.5 (-110) at BetOnline
Colorado Buffaloes vs. Massachusetts Minutemen
Thursday, November 17, 2022 - 01:30 PM EST at The HTC Center
The Colorado Buffaloes have already had an intriguing season. The Buffaloes defeated UC Riverside, lost to Grambling State, but then defeated a top-25 ranked Tennessee. They are led by leading scoring KJ Simpson, who has added 17.7 points per game.
Now they’ll look to win the first game of the Myrtle Beach Invitational against the UMass Minutemen. UMass is just 1-1 on the season after a loss to Towson last week.
The Buffaloes are turning the ball over 21.7% of the time but they’re dominating the offensive glass and getting to the foul line at a high rate. The Minutemen will likely struggle to defend Colorado, as they’ve allowed teams to shoot 35.6% from deep and 52.9% from inside the arc.
Meanwhile, UMass has struggled to get to the foul line. That might be good news, knowing that they’re shooting just 61.8% through two games.
The Minutemen should have success on the glass but won’t get nearly as many quality looks as Colorado.
Following the NCAAB odds, back Colorado -6.5.
Murray State Racers vs. Texas A&M Aggies
Thursday, November 17, 2022 - 04:00 PM EST at The HTC Center
Murray State doesn’t have a Division I win this year. They’ve lost the one Division I game that they’ve played this season. That’s not good news now that they’re going to have to face a top-25-ranked Texas A&M team today.
Murray State struggled badly defensively, allowing a 54.1% effective field goal percentage against St. Louis in a 91-68 loss. The Racers no longer have Matt McMahon and many of its former players, who all basically transferred to LSU. It’s going to be a rebuilding year for Murray State.
Meanwhile, the Aggies have wins over the University of Louisiana Monroe and Abilene Christian University. Both are Division I wins where they won by at least 19 points. The Aggies turn the ball over at a high rate but Murray State rarely saw turnovers against St. Louis in their first D1 matchup.
The Aggies should dominate inside on offense and defense and dictate this game to win by around 20 points again.
NCAAB Pick: Texas A&M -12.5 (-110) at BetOnline
