Saint Louis Billikens vs. Maryland Terrapins

Saturday, November 19, 2022 – 01:00 PM EST at Mohegan Sun Arena

The Saint Louis Billikens are currently 3-0, coming off a huge win over Memphis, 90-84, and they’ll take on the Maryland Terrapins to begin today’s Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off in Mohegan Sun Arena.

Maryland doesn’t have any major wins. But the Terps are also 3-0 with wins over Niagara, Western Carolina, and Binghamton. Maryland won all of those games by at least 20 points.

Teams Analysis

Saint Louis Billikens

Saint Louis is led by Gibson Jimerson. He’s averaging 18.7 points per game while shooting 47.5% from the field. The Billikens have shot an effective field goal percentage of 55.4% while only turning the ball over 14.3% of the time.

The Billikens should also be solid on the offensive glass. They’ve earned 31.4% of offensive rebounds this season.

Maryland Terrapins

Meanwhile, Maryland’s holding teams to a 36.6% effective field goal percentage. They’re also earning 22.2% of turnovers. Those numbers will likely fade. But what stands out is the Terrapins' defensive rebounding numbers. They’ve given up 32% of offensive rebounds through three games.

The Billikens also shoot 38.4% from deep and 54.1% from inside the arc. They’ll be challenged with Maryland holding teams to 20% from deep and 39.5% from inside the arc.

How Do the Teams Match Up?

On the other hand, Saint Louis isn’t going to earn many turnovers. Through three games, the Billikens have earned just 11.6% of turnovers. Maryland will likely get more shot opportunities, even if they still don’t win the offensive rebounding battle.

The Terps are shooting 25.4% from downtown but have hit 58.1% from inside the arc. Maryland would probably like to get to the line more. After multiple blowouts, they had no need to be super aggressive. I’d like to think they’ll see the line more against Saint Louis.

The Pick

At the end of the day, I’d still be worried about Maryland’s shooting ability. They’ve hit just 25.4% from downtown against bad defenses. Imagine what it’ll be like against Saint Louis? Plus, rebounding won’t be nearly as easy against the Billikens.

Back the Billikens at -4.

Miami Hurricanes vs. Providence Friars

Saturday, November 19, 2022 - 04:00 PM EST at Mohegan Sun Arena

The Miami Hurricanes have started the season 3-0, but their only notable win was against UNC Greensboro, where they ended up winning 79-65. UNCG is ranked 110 via KenPom and Miami defeated them by double-figures.

However, this will be Miami’s first game away from home. They’ll face Providence, who will also play its first game away from home. The Friars have wins over Rider, Northeastern, and Stonehill. None of these games were particularly hard, but Providence almost lost to Rider to begin the season.

How Do the Teams Match Up?

The Friars have allowed a 52.6% effective field goal percentage to begin the year. Teams are shooting 47.5% from downtown against Providence. That’s not going to last. But it’s definitely concerning to see.

Miami’s led by Jordan Miller, who is scoring 15.7 points per game while shooting 62.5% from the field. The Hurricanes have nailed 35.7% from downtown and have scored 58.2% from inside the arc.

Providence will more than likely keep Miami off the foul line. But Miami is still going to be a handful on the offensive glass. On the other hand, Providence is shooting 41.2% from downtown. Bryce Hopkins leads the team with 14.7 points per game.

As a team, they’re shooting 54% from the inside. The Friars also get to the foul line at a very high rate and continue to dominate the offensive glass, earning over 42% of chances.

The Pick

Both teams are currently top-50 in effective field goal percentage. Neither team will turn the ball over at a high rate, despite Providence trying to press for most of the game.

Both teams should be able to shoot at a high rate offensively from downtown. Miami won’t get to the line as much, but they’ll get higher-quality looks in this game.

Let’s back the Over 141.5 at -110 NCAAB odds for this Miami vs. Providence matchup.
